The fungus called, Candida auris preys primarily on “very sick” people and is generally not a threat to healthy people according to the CDC, but with a growing population here in Florda, everyone is advised to take precautions as necessary.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Candida auris was first detected here within the United States in 2016 and has been spreading ever since with its largest spread among those in healthcare facilities.

During 2022, the U.S. reported 2,377 confirmed clinical cases of Candida auris which is a 1,200% increase since 2017.
