Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested two students they say brought a gun to school at East Lee County High School in Lehigh Acres Friday.
“A potential tragedy was prevented today thanks to ‘See it, say it, make the call,’” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a press release. “I am proud of the student who reported this loaded gun on campus. Our youth services and our criminal investigations divisions immediately jumped into action and arrested the responsible students.”
Deputies arrested students Devoun Harris Jr., 17, and Tra’Quincia Fuller, 17, for bringing the gun to school.
According to LCSO, at 10:30 a.m. deputies responded to an anonymous tip about a student who had a gun in her backpack. They found Fuller at the school and say she had a gun in her backpack. Investigators say they then learned Harris put the gun in her backpack.
“At no time were any students or our school threatened. Having the weapon on campus is a violation of law, and the Student Code of Conduct,” the school sent in its letter. “There is zero tolerance at East Lee County High School and the School District of Lee County for this kind of behavior, so in addition to the legal consequences, the student(s) involved will be disciplined to the fullest extent.”
Harris and Fuller both face charges for possession of firearms on school grounds.
Both were taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Lee County.
