At Lehigh Regional Medical Center Gallery, Arts of the Inland is proud to announce its December 2016 Artist of the Month is Sherry Elliot
Sherry, a retired teacher from Clewiston High School, has been interested in the arts including sewing and jewelry making for many years but only started painting three years ago. Since it had been many years since she took art classes in school, Sherry felt she needed some instruction on how to get started with paints. When she found a class taught by Megan Kissinger at Riverbend Estates she fell in love with painting. With the encouragement of her classmates she tried many different subjects but found that she most enjoyed painting the Danish Countryside. Since Sherry’s ancestors came from Denmark she took several visits there to visit family members when she was young. Now her son lives in Denmark with his wife and her only grandson, Jakob, so she makes many trips to visit them resulting in a plethora of photos to paint from.
In addition to her son, Sherry has a daughter, who teachers in LaBelle. Sherry says that her husband Mike is very supportive of her painting efforts and praises every painting, finished or not! She also says that painting has opened a new avenue for her during her retirement and she is glad that she has found it.
The AOI gallery at the Café at Lehigh Regional Medical Center at 1500 Lee Boulevard, Lehigh Acres, FL is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm.
