
Two people were injured in a wreck involving an ambulance Thursday afternoon on Daniels Parkway.
The crash, between a Jeep Cherokee and Lehigh Acres Fire Department 2016 Ambulance, happened around noon near the intersection of Gateway Boulevard.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee one Bradley Buffington, 52. The firefighters Christopher Vasquez and Steven Tezyk in the ambulance Vasquez had no injuries and Tezyk had minor injuries per the FHP report.
Lehigh Acres Fire Rescue Ambulance was westbound on CR-876 in the center lane approaching Gateway Blvd. with a green traffic signal. Ambulance had its emergency lights and siren active as it was transporting a patient named Sharon Howard, 70 to the hospital. Jeep was southbound on Gateway Blvd. in the through lane to travel across Daniels Pkwy. Jeep entered the intersection on a red traffic signal. Ambulance’s front struck Jeep’s left side. Jeep overturned in the intersection and the driver was ejected. Jeep came to rest upright in the roadway.
Mr. Buffington the driver of the Jeep was at fault in the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Mr. Buffington was charged with failure to yield to emergency vehicle.
This ambulance had heavy damage to its front end and could be not of service for some time.
Also today another new ambulance got one of its front wheel and tires replaced to careless driving by a firefighter costing the taxpayers another $2500.
