A Lehigh Acres couple who lost their lives after driving into a canal Thursday night were celebrating their 39th wedding anniversary before they died.
Chester and Marie “Cookie” Oszust were found inside their submerged vehicle by Lee County deputies Friday morning.
They say the couple drove off the end of North Avenue into Able Canal. The sheriff’s office was called just after 8:30 a.m. Friday and responded with its dive team. You can still see the track marks from where the Oszusts’ Dodge Caliber ran off the road and into the canal.
Everyone we spoke with was stunned to hear something like this would happen to such a wonderful couple of high school sweethearts.
