Progressive Waste Solutions
Refusing To Pay Fines Over Automated Pickup Service

Lee County and Progressive Waste Solutions are talking money. The two sides are discussing how to resolve the fine that the county levied on the trash company last week.

While Progressive Waste Solutions made an effort to explain to the county how they are fixing things, they say they won’t pay the fine the county put on them.

Last week, we reported Lee County had documented close to 1,100 incidents since the automated service began in early October.  It led the county to fine the waste company $375,900.

We’re told county officials met last Friday with Progressive Waste Solutions. On that same day, the county received a letter. In it, Progressive Waste Solutions said they don’t intend to pay the $375,900 in fines.

On Tuesday, County Commissioner Frank Mann met behind closed doors to get an update on Progressive Waste Solutions’ progress to fix things.

An official told Lehigh Acres Gazette they are working daily with Lee County Solid Waste to make improvements to get the trash off the ground in a timely manner.

“Their staff has worked well with our staff to try to resolve the problems and iron them out. We are going to make sure we stay on top of them until they are ironed out,” County Commissioner Brian Hamman said.
