State Road 82 Reopens After Truck Crash Injures One Driver

A vehicle crash with injuries forced the closure of State Road 82 east of Lehigh Acres Thursday morning, but the road has since reopened.

The crash happened just before 7am at the intersection of State Road 82 and Corkscrew Road, and involved two semi-trucks, according to Florida Highway Patrol.  One truck was stopped on S.R. 82 and attempting to turn left onto Corkscrew when the 2nd truck crashed into the rear end of the 1st truck.

The driver of that 2nd truck, a 25-year-old man from Miami, was taken to the hospital for treatment to critical injuries.

All lanes in both directions were closed, but vehicles were sporadically allowed to drive around the scene on the road shoulder.  The roadway was reopened nearly 7 hours later.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating. Charges are pending.
