On Wednesday, July 8, 20 new Crime Stoppers signs will be posted in targeted areas throughout Lehigh Acres, in hopes of encouraging residents to provide anonymous tips on crime activity in their neighborhoods.
The signs will be installed by the Department of Transportation in areas where crime prevention specialists, and Crime Stoppers staff, felt would result in the most positive impact. Signs are being posted in all corners of the county, with most in areas more prevalent to crime than others.
“So often people witness things, or even hear things in their community, and they are hesitant to be the ones visibly speaking to law enforcement,” said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator. “These signs will be a permanent reminder that the Crime Stoppers hotline is an outlet for them to report criminal actions, or wanted people who are compromising the safety of their neighborhoods. The anonymous factor is key for many individuals, who want resolution to these crimes, but don’t want to get directly involved. When they call Crime Stoppers, their identity is always anonymous, and if their tip leads to an arrest, they’ll get a cash reward for their good citizenship.”
The installation process will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, with all signs installed by early afternoon. The Crime Stoppers signs will be placed at the following locations:
*Homestead Road, just north of SR 82, Lehigh Acres
*Lee Boulevard, just east of SR 82, Lehigh Acres
*Sunshine Boulevard, just north of SR 82, Lehigh Acres
*Daniels/Gunnery Road, eastbound, Lehigh Acres
