
Dr. W. Joe Horrom, 76, of Lehigh Acres, Florida passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015. After a long battle with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia, he was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor in the final weeks of his life.
Joe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Ann (Cowart) Horrom, son and daughter-in-law Neal and Melissa Horrom, daughters Jill Horrom and Amy Horrom, grandchildren Joshua, Matthew and Joy Horrom.
Joe was born in Evansville, Indiana on June 11, 1939 to Robert and Wilma (Winchell) Horrom. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Earl Horrom.
His family moved to Miami, Florida in 1950. A graduate of Miami Jackson High School, Joe went on Florida State University where he was a member of the Marching Chiefs. He attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, graduating first in his class. He met his wife, Carol, at Allapatah Methodist Church while in high school and the two were married there in 1962. Joe served in the United States Air Force and after his service in 1967 moved to Lehigh Acres where he practiced optometry until 2009. He was an active member of the Lehigh community and a member of the Southwest Florida Optometric Association. He enjoyed music and was a member of New Life Assembly of God church where he sang in the choir.
Joe served his heavenly Father on earth and is now celebrating with his Father in heaven.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 1:00 pm at New Life Assembly of God, 5146 Leonard Blvd., Lehigh Acres, FL 33973. For information call Hodges Funeral Home at 239-334-4880.
