If the Commissioners Plan A is another Safer Grant, and Plan B is a Tax Assessment (in a recent Lehigh Acres Citizen poll showed that 69% of the participates were against the assessment), so what is Plan C if A and B fail to save her son the Lehigh Acres firefighter?
Maybe it’s this:
1. Browning out two stations for 12 hours per day (rotating stations on the off peak time using historical data)
2. Changing firefighter schedules to 12 hours a day for 4 days on and three day off – verses – 24 hours on and 48 hours off plus one pay day off every two and half weeks.
These two items will immediately save the Fire District dollars within the first thirty days and millions over time that came be used to save jobs verses layoffs.
Also maintenance issues become easier to handle because you know when that station equipment is not being used.
These savings measures are 100% trackable and quantitative and should not be ignored.
If some of the Fire Board Commissioners would have started 4 years ago to address the financial problems evident today, perhaps there would be no planned layoffs or any presentation of inflated tax assessments to the Community.
I am not a wealthy man and this assessment will affect me greatly, along with 80,000 people in the Lehigh Acres area. I didn’t create this deficit of funding, the financial irresponsibility and lack of attention to the problem by the Fire Board did. No one in my Community should subsidize the negligence of the Board for their mismanagement of the very budget that they are Constitutionally required to maintain.
This message is not directed to our very dedicated fireman who risk their lives constantly to save us when we call 911. I have the utmost respect for all of them and their families.
I sincerely seek voters support in November to allow me the honor to attempt to bring back common sense to the Lehigh Acres Fire Board. Its my contention that if we financially tighten our belts, we can not only stop the necessity of any new assessments, we can also reduce the reduction of our most important assets, Lehigh Acres firemen. They are a part of our Community also and deserve our support.
