Is There A Raging War Between Gangs In The City Of Fort Myers And Lehigh Acres?

Fort Myers Councilman Tom Leonardo

One Fort Myers city councilman says “YES” and he plans to address the issue.

Fort Myers Councilman Tom Leonardo is fed up with the recent so-called gang related violence in Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres.

The problem is there are gang rivalries over drug turf between people, our minority communities in Fort Myers and in Lehigh Acres, said Leonardo.

We need to have a task force within a task force; small, well-focused, specifically on that one problem of the gang and violence connection between Fort Myers and Lehigh Acres, says Leonardo.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t comment on gang related activity.

However the Fort Myer Police Dept did say through their PIO: “The definition of a gang is an organized group of criminals involved in an illegal activity to turn a profit.  FMPD does not see a growing trend in gang activity.”
