Lee County and LaBelle-area Kiwanis clubs have announced a new campaign to prevent children from being left unattended in vehicles, where they can dangerously over-heat.
The “Not Even for a Minute” campaign is now distributing educational materials to the community’s daycare centers, churches, nursery schools and children’s health care clinics. The club is looking for additional funds to keep the effort going.
“Parents should place the decal either on their dashboards or on the car window by where the child’s car seat is,” said Trinky Jarrett, a club member and campaign organizer, in a prepared comment this morning. “We want to make the public aware that it is dangerous to leave an unattended child in the car – even if it’s only for a minute,” said Jarrett, “Kids are left unattended in cars every year. Too many of these children die. Others suffer thermal burns, severe dehydration, seizures, kidney damage and brain damage. One death is too many.”
