Jefferson Jones’ acrylic painting of two fulvous whistling ducks, “Morning Pair”

Lehigh Acres homeschooled 17-year-old Jefferson Jones took first place in at the annual Florida Junior Duck Stamp Contest.

Becky Wolff, the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife refuge ranger who coordinated this year’s state contest, has sent Jefferson’s acrylic painting of two fulvous whistling ducks, “Morning Pair”, to Washington, D.C., where it will compete against other states’ winners. If Jefferson’s painting wins, it will be used to create the National Junior Duck Stamp.

His painting was chosen from a field of 1,793 Florida entries in several age ranges.
