Update:
On April 4, 2012, at approximately 8:21 a.m. the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to an accident involving a Pontiac Grand Am and a child at 8th Street SW and Bruce Avenue in Lehigh Acres. The child was en route to his bus stop.
The child sustained serious injuries resulting in being flown to Lee Memorial Hospital. Due to the severity of injuries the child was transported via Med Flight to Tampa General Hospital.
The preliminary investigation determined that speed was not a factor in this accident. The child did travel into the path of a moving vehicle and was struck. The driver will not be cited for the accident.
