A Lee County jury has just returned a guilty verdict following the two-day trial of Brione Lamar Joiner, finding him guilty of shooting a semi-automatic handgun at a passing vehicle in Lehigh Acres. He was convicted of Discharging a Firearm in Public, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Actual Possession), and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer without Violence

On September 10, 2022, two Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were responding to an unrelated call for service in Lehigh Acres when they heard multiple gunshots nearby. They immediately drove in the direction of the gunshots. There was a pick-up truck, in the intersection of 28th Street Southwest and Quentin Avenue South with multiple bullet holes. Multiple 9mm shell casings were found in the roadway.
Video surveillance from two nearby buildings showed a red Dodge Challenger in the area at the time the shots were fired, driven by a man with a beard, wearing a hat, as well as the man standing in the roadway firing a gun.
The car was identified as belonging to a woman in Lehigh Acres. Deputies located the vehicle at a residence, but the owner was uncooperative.
A video from a nearby residence, showed a man matching the suspect, driving the Dodge Challenger into the garage of the home, close in time to the shooting. Deputies got a search warrant for the house.
The next day, when deputies went back to serve the warrant, they heard a noise in the attic. The defendant then appeared and climbed out of a rear window of the home and ran. Deputies and detectives verbally commanded
Joiner to stop running multiple times but he ignored them. He was captured several blocks away and taken into custody.
A 9mm magazine to hold bullets for a Glock pistol was found in the home.
Assistant State Attorney Marilla Shoemaker prosecuted the case. Sentencing is scheduled for October 19, 2023.
