A Lehigh Acres man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he crashed into a U.S. Marshall’s Service SUV to avoid arrest and fled from law enforcement in 2021.

Alanzo Lamart Edison was adjudicated guilty of aggravated fleeing and eluding, leaving the scene of a crash, and fleeing to elude a law enforcement officer. He was convicted in May after a trial in Lee County.
On August 12, 2021, the United States Marshal Service was assisted by the Fort Myers Police Department to execute an arrest warrant for Edison at a Lehigh Acres home. He was wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
When law enforcement arrived at the home to serve the warrant, Edison drove a BMW out of the garage and crashed into an unmarked U.S. Marshall’s Service SUV before fleeing westbound on State Road 82.
Edison was seen driving on the wrong side of the road while swerving through traffic at speeds over 100 mph. Police said he ended up crashing into a Waste Pro dump truck and wrecking his vehicle. After the crash, Edison ran from the scene and got picked up by a friend who helped him flee from the county.
Shortly after the incident, Edison was found and taken to the Sarasota County Jail. He was later transferred over to the Lee County Jail.
As part of his sentence, Edison must pay $5,025.16 to Waste Pro for the damage done to the dump truck. His driver’s license was also suspended for five years.
