Did you know that Illegal immigrant truck drivers are planning a strike on Saturday?
Earlier in 2023, the Florida Legislature passed a bill targeting illegal immigrants who are unauthorized to be employed in our state. In May, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill making it law effective July 1st of this year.
The new immigration law expands requirements with more than 25 employees to utilize E-Verify which is a federal government enrollment system that determines if someone may be legally employed. The new immigration law here also invalidates out of state driver’s licenses if that license holder entered the United States illegally. If another state did issue a license to drive, but was unable to prove legal residence within the U.S., the new law would also now make it unlawful to operate a motor vehicle anywhere within our state.
Because of this new law, there have been some who have called for, and joined a boycott of sorts started by Illegal Aliens who are currently and somehow employed as truck drivers across Florida.
Those who are calling for the strike on July 1st are posting on social media in hopes of gaining support of legal residents and American truck drivers. If successful, there will be an interruption of food and other essentials including medicine, baby diapers and other important items needed all across the state. They hope through their strike however, to put pressure on the legislature and governor to reverse the already-passed law.
