Salad kits recalled from Publix test positive with Listeria

Fresh Express Incorporated, a brand sold at Publix and other retailers, is voluntarily recalling three varieties of already-expired salad kits.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), The Caesar Chopped Kit, Chopped Kit Chipotle Cheddar, and the Makoto Honey Ginger Salad Kits with product codes G075 have been recalled.

The Caesar Chopped Kit and the Chopped Kit Chipotle Cheddar have a use-by date of April 2. The Makoto Honey Ginger Salad Kit has a use-by date of March 31.

These salad kits were recalled because of a possible health risk from Listera monocytogenes. This is a bacteria that can cause serious, sometimes fatal, infections in young children, frail, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

No infections from the salad kits have been reported yet. Listeria infections can cause high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, miscarriages, and stillbirths.

Anyone who has these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider, according to the FDA.
