Did you know that Lakeisha Mitchell, 42, the foster mother who was arrested last August for the murder of a foster child, 4-year-old Joy King-Castro, had her bond revoked after prosecutors stated Mitchell violated terms of her pretrial release while charged with murder?

During a hearing last Thursday, prosecutors showed evidence that Mitchell had violated her 24-hour curfew, including more than 40 incidents between December 16, 2021 and June 17, 2022 where her electronic monitoring device showed her eating at private residences, located at shopping centers, and various restaurants in Brevard County and also in Orlando.
In addition, Mitchell was hired as a security guard assigned to screen visitors at the Titusville Courthouse. When some of the employees of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office recognized her, she gave a false birth date and was “evasive” about the criminal case, one of the prosecutors stated to the judge during the hearing to revoke Mitchell’s pretrial release.
Circuit Judge, Samuel Bookhardt III ordered Mitchel returned to Brevard County Jail. She is reportedly ordered to remain there while awaiting trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
Editor’s note: According to a 2020 USA Today report, many problems exist within the Florida DCF including placing children in safe Florida foster care homes. Many children placed in foster care across Florida are physically, and or sexually abused. “Florida’s child welfare system repeatedly risked children’s safety on foster parents with criminal records and abuse allegations.” The USA article with more findings regarding Florida DCF can be found at this link, Flooded by foster kids, Florida failed to find safe homes (usatoday.com)
