The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, along with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, launched an investigation of a multistate outbreak of hepatitis A infections in the United States potentially linked to fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo and HEB, purchased between March 5 and April 25.

According to the FDA, the potentially affected FreshKampo and HEB products are past shelf life. These products were sold at the following retailers, including, but not limited to:
- Aldi
- HEB
- Kroger
- Safeway
- Sprouts Farmers Market
- Trader Joe’s
- Walmart
- Weis Markets
- WinCo Foods
The FDA said that if consumers are unsure of what brand they purchased, when they purchased your strawberries, or where they purchased their strawberries from, the strawberries should be thrown away.
The traceback investigations from the FDA show that cases in California and Minnesota report having purchased fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo or HEB prior to becoming ill.
As the FDA and the CDC continue the investigation, they advise to the public to contact their healthcare provider if they think they may have symptoms of a hepatitis A infection after eating these strawberries, or if they think that they have eaten these strawberries in the last two weeks.
