Lehigh Acres Fire Control and no fewer than three other agencies responded to a brush fire Wednesday afternoon in the area of Greenbriar Drive and Killon Street.
The fire grew to between 10-15 acres and moved northwest of the district line. The Caloosahatchee branch of the Florida Forest Service said the fire was 85% contained at 1:30 p.m.
A brush fire in the Hickey Creek Preserve that ignited just before noon today. The fire jumped a canal into Alva and spread to approximately 15 acres before it was contained. In total, 41 separate apparatus were involved in the suppression efforts.
This included assistance from the North Strike Team. In our current weather conditions, a simple hot ember can lead to a major disaster. Please use caution with any outside activity that creates sparks near dry brush, and properly contain any outside fire (including flying embers).

**Update** – The fire appears to have started very close to an ATV trail. It is important to mention that during this dry season extra care should be taken with ATVs and dirt bikes to ensure sparks are not dispersing from the muffler, like adding a spark arrestor or not riding in these areas.
The fire is out – crews will still be in the area for mop up operations. pic.twitter.com/FnqjShuHEF
