U.S. Rep. Shalala, Florida Leaders Demand Trump, DeSantis Rapidly Scale-Up COVID-19 Testing to Safely Relax Social Distancing

Today on a video press conference, U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala, former Secretary of Health and Human Services, State Senator Lori Berman, Vice Chair of the Committee on Health Policy, Dr. Brent Schillinger, past President of Palm Beach County Medical Society, and Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo demanded President Trump and Governor DeSantis immediately take action to implement mass COVID-19 testing, a step health experts say is necessary to safely relax social distancing measures.

Tomorrow marks one month since the Trump Administration claimed they would have 27 million tests by the end of March, but have so far completed less than 4 million. According to Harvard researchers, Florida needs to more than triple the number of tests conducted to safely relax social distancing.
