A hazmat team responded to a gas leak at the intersection of Alabama Road and Homestead Road in Lehigh Acres Monday morning.
According to Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, a truck doing work in the area hit a box that caused the leak.
TECO Gas was able to shut off the natural gas line in the area, according to Lehigh Fire. People within a half-mile radius from the leak were evacuated.
The intersection was closed but has reopened. Those who evacuated, mostly businesses, are back.
