Concerned about food shortages? Floridians are lucky they have one of the largest US shrimp culturing facilities right in their own backyard

Saint James City, Florida. One of the biggest lessons for America during the Covid-19 outbreak is our dependence on foreign countries for our critical supplies. Seafood has long been one of the most threatened supplies because of the US imports around 90% of its seafood. There is no reason Americans should be so reliant on imports for something as basic as seafood. We do have the ability to produce our own. It is better, safer, and more secure. We are stepping up our efforts to ensure our fellow Floridians continue to have access to high-quality shrimp…Sun Shrimp®. Look for us at www.sunshrimp.com

We have been working hard to give America an alternative and increase our domestic food supply. American Mariculture Inc. operates its state-of-the-art shrimp culturing facility on Pine Island, on the Southwest Coast of Florida. Over the past 7 years, this facility has grown into one of the largest shrimp growers in the USA. Home of Sun Shrimp®, our all natural, chemical & preservative free and sustainably grown shrimp are preferred by top chefs nationwide, but now that most restaurants are closed, we have lots of extra Sun Shrimp® available. Rather than storing them, we are now allowing consumers to buy direct from our farm.

Sun Shrimp® are unique in America. “Since most shrimp available in the US are frozen imports, we Americans have forgotten what a real fresh and chemical free, antibiotic free and preservative free shrimp tastes like” says Robin Pearl, President of American Mariculture, Inc., further stating: “Our shrimp are hatched, cultured and packed all on the same location and this gives us full control and traceability of our shrimpHarvested shrimp are packed by our fully HAACP certified packing plant and shipped to our customers within hours of harvest.” Available year round, Sun Shrimp® are America’s answer to reduce our dependence on foreign imports and improve our domestic food security.

Our onsite farm store is open Monday through Friday from 11AM to 6PM. We offer fresh shrimp daily and, when they run out, have lots of frozen ones available as well. You can purchase them whole, deheaded or peeled and deveined. Prices range from $12 to $14 per pound. All our shrimp are packed in 1.5 and 5 pound containers.

Sun Shrimp® are also available online at www.sunshrimp.com. We can ship a minimum order of 5 pounds anywhere in the US with UPS overnight shipping. When shipping overnight, our Sun Shrimp® are packed in a Styrofoam cooler with gel packs. We do everything we can to make sure our shrimp arrive in perfect condition. Pearl says: ”Remember, these are our babies and we take great pride in growing them. We don’t want that effort to be for nothing.”

During this time of national crisis, new opportunities to change course and improve our options will arise. Once Americans try some of their locally grown clean and delicious Sun Shrimp®, they too will realize how fantastic it really is to have our own supply of shrimp right here in the USA. Sun Shrimp® are born and raised by Americans for Americans.
