Former Lehigh Acres Resident Anthonie P. Barrett has completed a 22-day 696.3 km (432.661 ml) wilderness hike to raise awareness for PTSD & Violent Crimes, from his family’s farmstead in the Okanagan Valley near the foot of Black Knight Mountain, British Columbia just outside of Kelowna to Prince George, British Columbia with his 3-year-old East German/DDR Working Line German Shepherd Reece von Bradford.

Barrett who is still recovering from a triple bypass surgery that he had back on December 27 and lung surgery back in January and was resurrected by doctors from a failed murder attempt back on September 11, 2017, by his ex-wife and no nothing punk.
When asked why he felt he needed to make this trek he replied “Why not, I been dead 4 times now in my life so why not push my luck. I don’t fear death as most people do, in fact, I embrace death as a companion in my life.” Barrett continued, “As a victim of a murder/murder attempt and one that lives with PTSD every day, I tend to spend a lot of time alone, and for me, it helps. Yet many with PTSD even that is too much, this hike is to show that anyone can do anything after such events and that you can beat anything.”
Anthonie and Reece left with just what they could carry with them, Anthonie carried in his tactical mole hiking pack roughly about 50lbs of gear and Reece carried in his tactical mole vest about 20lbs of gear.
The two set off on the morning of February 17th against his heart surgeon advice and made just about 25 miles that the first day, making camp near a small creek where he fished for dinner and Reece brought in a par of rabbits. That was the routine for the whole trip, Barrett and Reece reached the city of Prince George on March 10th. They spent a few days there talking to people with PTSD and victims of violent crimes before returning to Kelowna and the farmstead near Black Knight Mountain by bus.
Now home at the farmstead Barrett is planning another long hike, “I’m thinking of making the trek to Yellowknife, but that will have to wait till after the growing season here on the farm and this Capitalist
Windfall Virus aka Covid-19 as it is 2096.6km (1394ml) trip.” Barrett said.
Barrett and Reece have completed a number of special training course, medical alert Service Dog
(maSD), Advanced Tactical Security and Defense (ATSD) back in 2018 and have also completed a Advanced Search & Rescue (ASaR) and a Canadian Wilderness Survival Course (CWSC). Barrett and Reece continue to train for whatever may come in life, along with speaking all over Canada and the US about gun violence and living with PTSD.
