Lehigh Acres will get another $3.5 million in street lights this year.

“I’m really excited to announce that we have lots of plans for additional street lights in Lehigh Acres,” Lee County Electric Co-operative spokesperson Patricia Lassiter told those attending the Lehigh Acres Community Council’s March 2 meeting. “I know they are really needed. We got a big budget this year through the county for Lehigh. This year the budget will be $3.5 million for all of Lehigh, so this is a huge increase from last year’s budget.
“The county is the one that facilitates this with LCEC. We are still waiting on the applications. Once we start to receive those applications for service, we will start to gear up internally.”
According to Lassiter, both the engineering and construction side of LCEC is preparing for the demand.
“We are planning to stagger the lights, at a rate of about 60 per week so we can get it completed within a one-year timeframe once we receive the applications,” she said. “The county has identified 2,400 intersections in LCEC territory and 1,300 intersections in FPL’s territory.
