My opinion. Lehigh does away with the spring festival and now calls it a hero’s festival celebrating those that live off our tax dollars. I have nothing against the sheriff dept nor the fire dept (except they are overpaid and thankfully underworked) and I have admiration for those that serve and served in the military (including myself) BUT these folks are NOT heroes. These folks made job choices. They chose to join the sheriff or fire dept and for the most part since Vietnam, they chose to join the military. They receive nice salaries and much better benefits and retirement packages than folks working in the private sector receive.
We show these people our thanks to every Friday when they receive their paycheck paid for by our taxes.
I believe that putting government workers on pedestals is bad for our society.
Therefore, I cannot tell others what to do but I will not be attending any of the activities at this year’s hero’s festival
