It’s graduation season for our new astronauts! A class of 11 Americans and two Canadians were honored in a graduation ceremony on Friday, Jan. 10, at our Johnson Space Center.
The astronauts successfully completed more than two years of required basic training and are now eligible for spaceflight assignments to the International Space Station, Artemis missions to the Moon, and ultimately, missions to Mars.

Introducing the Graduates – Pilot. Explorer. Doctor. Researcher. These are just a few of the career backgrounds of our new astronauts. The 11 astronauts were selected in 2017 from a record-setting pool of more than 18,000 applicants. Learn more about the new space heroes!
Artemis Age Astronauts – The next frontier isn’t just for the next generation, it’s for this generation. Our new astronauts are the first to graduate since we announced our Artemis program to send the first woman and next man to the surface of the Moon by 2024.
