Red Cross Responds to a Duplex Fire in Lehigh Acres

Today, Florida’s Southern Gulf Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to a duplex fire on Bristo Street in Lehigh Acres, Fla.

Lehigh Acres Fire crews responded to a fire at a home in Lehigh Acres on Monday afternoon.

Fire officials said it started in the garage of a house on Bristo Street.

The homeowners were home at the time the fire began, although firefighters initially said nobody was home. No injuries have been reported at this time.

Five of Lehigh Acres fire trucks including a tanker responded to the scene. The fire department has not said what the cause of the fire was.

Local Red Cross volunteers on a Disaster Action Team were on site to help coordinate emergency aid to the affected family. Fire officials say two adults and four children were impacted by the blaze.

The Red Cross provided comfort kits, direct client assistance and recovery planning to the family to meet their disaster-caused needs.

Nearly 180 times a day, the Red Cross helps a family affected by a home fire or other disaster. That’s why the American Red Cross launched the nationwide Home Fire Campaign in 2014 which aims to reduce home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent.
