FGCU baseball senior Keith Stevens was named ASUN Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. The honor is the first for Stevens, who is in his second year on the Eagles’ roster.

“We’re extremely happy for Keith and we know how hard he’s been working,” head coach Dave Tollett said. “He’s been paying attention during film and taking his preparation very seriously. It’s been paying off for him because he’s been performing well each weekend.”
Stevens (Miami, FL/Miami Killian HS/Hillsborough CC) led the Green and Blue offense during the series-win over NJIT this past weekend. He batted .500 over the three-game span and recorded five of the team’s 15 total RBIs. He crossed home plate three times, therefore accounting for eight of FGCU’s 18 total runs in the series.
The senior leads all ASUN players with a .381 batting average in league play and has five extra-base hits against ASUN arms.
Stevens, who has primarily appeared in left field this season, played a crucial role during the doubleheader sweep over the Highlanders. He went 2-for-4 during Saturday’s first game and pushed three of the team’s six runs across. In the opening frame of the series finale, he drove junior Richie Garcia (Davie, FL/West Broward HS) in with a single that awarded the team an early 1-0 edge.
Currently, Stevens owns a team-high .329 batting average and has cranked out 11 doubles and two homers. He has 17 multi-hit games under his belt and has reached base in all but four games he has played in this season. At one point, he owned a 16-game streak of reaching base safely. Recently, he has reached in nine consecutive games.
This is the third Player of the Week honor for the team and the fourth weekly award overall. Freshman position player Joe Kinker (Northport, FL/Venice HS) and senior pitcher Evan Lumbert (Orlando, FL/Boone HS/South Florida State) swept the weekly awards on March 11 and senior infielder Eric Gonzalez (Miami, FL/American HS/ASA College) was selected on April 15.
