Davenport, Kelly Headline ASUN Postseason Awards

Four members of the FGCU softball team earned ASUN All-Conference nods highlighted by Reedy Davenport claiming Freshman of the Year and Kate Kelly snagging First Team honors.

Racquel Fournet and Riley Randolph each landed a spot on the ASUN Second Team.

Davenport (St. Johns, FL./Bartram Trail HS) becomes the program’s second ASUN Freshman of the Year since Randolph (St. Petersburg, FL./Northeast HS) claimed it back in 2016. The St. Johns native has held down the shortstop post since the beginning of the season. Overall, Davenport owns a .293 BA, collecting 41 hits with six doubles, one triple and four home runs. She’s driven in 23 runners which is second on the team while slugging at a .436-clip. On defense the freshman holds an overall .963 fielding percentage, committing just two errors during conference play.

“Reedy has made an immediate impact for us on both sides of the ball,” said head coach David Deiros “She’s an exceptional athlete with really good instincts.”

Kelly (Cape Coral, FL./Seminole State College) has been a staple in FGCU’s outfield this season, making 43 starts in 47 appearances primarily in center field. Overall, the senior is batting .370 which leads the team and ranks fourth in the ASUN. The senior has posted a team-best 54 hits (four doubles) and 11 RBI thus far while also swiping a team-best 18 bags. She holds a perfect fielding percentage as she’s complied 50 putouts along with three assists.

“Kate has had a fantastic senior year and she’s really solidified our leadoff spot since the middle of the year,” said coach Deiros. “Our offense is best when she sets the table for us.”

Randolph has had her best season to date in a Green and Blue uniform during her senior season. Overall, she owns a 1.16 ERA (11th in the nation) and has fanned 209 batters (25th in the nation). Her record is currently 17-8 and batters are being held to a .194-clip. The St. Petersburg native has tossed 175.2 innings with 20 complete games and six shutouts.

Fournet (Windermere, FL./Windermere Preparatory School) lands on the Second Team for the second time in her career (2017). At the plate, she’s batting .316, making a start in all 48 games. The senior leads the team in RBI (28) and doubles (10). Meanwhile, she’s second on the team behind Kelly in hits (50). On defense, Fournet owns a .987 fielding percentage, posting only two errors throughout conference play, posting 292 putouts with seven assists.

“What else can I say about Riley and Racquel?” said Deiros. “They’ve had phenomenal careers with the Green and Blue and their names will be forever etched in our record books.”
