Fatal Crash Shuts Down Major Road

The northbound lanes of Joel Boulevard were shut down for nearly 5 hours following a violent deadly crash. The crash happened just south of East 4th Street around 5 a.m.

According to the FHP report vehicle crossed over to the northbound lanes, slamming into a guardrail.

FHP said, Joshua Rubush, 21, of LaBelle, was heading south on Joel Boulevard in a Honda Civic when he failed to negotiate a curve.

According to FHP report, Rubush civic crossed into the opposite lane and slammed into a guardrail, tearing nearly 25 feet of the rail from the ground along with the left side of the vehicle’s roof.

According to Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue, Rubush was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt. Alcohol results are pending.

Joel Boulevard northbound was shut down for nearly 5 hours while troopers investigated. All lanes are back open now.
