Brush fire flames were contained Saturday night at the intersection of Pullman Street and Pendleton Avenue.
The fire happened around 7:30 p.m. The blaze scorched between approximately half an acre of land, but no homes were in danger, according to a Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District lieutenant.
Lehigh Acres Fire District says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, though fireworks likely started it, a witness said.
Firefighters and the Florida Forest Service tackled the flames until around 9 p.m.
The Lehigh Acres Fire District says embers were landing on neighbors’ rooftops threatening the lives of those inside the homes.
Firefighters say Saturday’s conditions were dry and humid enough for this sort of fire.
