Rapid Gunfire Nearly Hits Woman and Rattles Senior Development

A Lehigh Acres woman says her refrigerator saved her life last Saturday night after gunfire erupted outside her home at Presbyterian Homes.

The shooting happened Saturday at the Presbyterian Homes at the corner of Beth Stacey Boulevard and Woodward Court.

The complex is owned by a non-profit that provides affordable housing to disabled and low-income seniors.

Brenda Rowley. My heart went to floor, I was sitting here in this recliner watching television and I heard a long burst of gunfire.

She heard a ping, which was the sound of a bullet whizzing through the screen of her open window bouncing off her fridge before landing on the floor.

According to Rowley, deputies believe the bullet came from a homeless camp about 100 yards away across a canal within the woods.

Coleen Moorehead, who lives next door said. I know the difference between fireworks and a gunshot. I was ready to hit the floor.

So far, no arrests have been made in this case.
