Eight Lehigh Acres Firefighters are in the DROP program – The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP), implemented on July 1, 1998, this is a program that allows you to retire without terminating your employment for up to 5 years.
These men are retire but continue to collect a pay check and retirement.
Perfectly legal. Educators and other state employees do this too. They are still on the job, and this helps provide a decent retirement.
