Leader in Me classes will begin Monday, September 12th at Lehigh Acres Middle School. The school wide elective allows teachers and students to develop a bond that will help students to become a better scholar. LAMS has built in a 40 minute Leader in Me time span between 4th and 5th periods of the school day.
During this time, students will meet their designated teacher where they will be mentored and coached. They will review grades, attendance, discipline and student goals. Weeks will alternate between a mentorship class and clubs that will be chosen collectively by students. The program is under the direction of Assistant Principal Joseph Restino and coordinated by Reading Teacher, Erin Justice. Additional information about the program can be accessed at the Leader in Me website: LHM.leeschools.net.
What is Leader in Me?
Leader in Me is not an event, program or curriculum. It is ongoing leadership development – meaning everywhere and all the time. The LAMS faculty teaches leadership qualities with an integrated approach and with the belief that every student is capable of being a leader.
What does Leader in Me look like at LAMS?
To aid in this culture shift the Bruin Bell Schedule has been altered to incorporate Leader in Me Monday. During this time teachers will monitor their designated students grades, discipline, and work to promote a positive culture among the school. The teacher becomes an advocate for all the students in that class. Every other week students will be invited to participate in an interest club of their choice to further build relationships with their LAMS family.
Why do students need Leader in Me?
At Lehigh Acres Middle School faculty, administration and staff strive not only toward academic success but personal success as well. Through the utilization of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and interest based clubs, LAMS scholars are better prepared for advancement in programs such as Avid, Cambridge, and STEAM.
Furthermore these habits carry over positive achievements in high school, college and life, turning scholars into productive adult citizens.
