As fall gets underway, Healthy Harvest Community Farms is gearing up for a new growing season in Dunbar and Lehigh Acres farms.
“Season’s just starting. A lot of this stuff is early growth,” said CEO and founder Joe Pearson, pointing at a variety of fruits and vegetables.
“The biggest things that we have to hear from is the heat,” said Pearson. “We understand that, but once you’re out here and you do it and you’re done, you feel very proud about what you’ve said.”
The non-profit organization distributes 75 percent of the fresh produce to surrounding communities, helping those in need.
“We donate it to local food banks, food distribution centers and soup kitchens,” explained Pearson.
The rest is available at the farm on a donation basis, providing relief to the community.
