The County Commissioners will hold a special session Wednesday morning to declare of state of emergency for a section of eastern Lee County in which private roads have been overcome by rain in the past few days.

Lee County commissioners will be asked to declare a state of local emergency for an area of Lehigh Acres on Wednesday.

The area is described as being in the vicinity of Wildcat Drive, between State Road 82 and Corkscrew Road. It has experienced localized flooding due to heavy rains.

Private roads in the area are said to have been overwhelmed by the flooding.

A declaration of emergency would allow the county to perform work, sign contracts and incur costs to take immediate action to deal with the flooding.

Such declarations are ordered “from time to time typically during the summer,” according to Betsy Clayton, the Lee County Communications Director.

The meeting is at 9:30 a.m. at the Old Lee County Courthouse on Main Street. The meeting is open to the public.

By law, the state of local emergency is good for seven days unless commissioners vote to terminate the declaration within a week.
