The Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is in the process of shipping 10,000 Zika preparedness kits to the state of Florida, according to the Florida Governor’s office
The kits will be available at local health departments and some hospitals.
Governor Rick Scott is also requesting 5,000 Zika antibody testing kits.
The preparedness kits are packed with bug repellent, bug netting, standing water treatment tablets and other items to protect people from the virus.
“If you just really don’t want to get Zika, then the preparedness protection kit is going to give you that” said Shelly Redovan with Lee County Mosquito Control District.
Redovan said if you use bug repellent, it can provide you up to 90 percent protection against contracting the virus.
