Lee County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating after burglars broke into at least 15 cars on Thursday. It happened on multiple roads north of Lee Blvd, including Bywood Street and Beauty Street.“All of her cards were just scattered all over the floor and the two things missing were her license and her debit card,” said Margaret Jellison, describing the conditions of her sister’s car after burglars rummaged through it early Thursday morning.
This isn’t the first time Jellison has been impacted by car burglars since she moved to the neighborhood 13 years ago. Years ago, her mother’s car was broken into but the thieves didn’t steal anything.
While her sister’s and several of the cars broken into were unlocked, other’s reported to police that they woke up with their car “window smashed out”, and missing items like a Glock 42, portable DVD players and nearly $8,000 worth of property.
“It’s bound to happen. You just never expect it’s going to happen to you,” said Jellison. She adds the best defense is always remembering to lock your doors.
A suspect has not been named in this investigation. If you have any information that can help police, you are urged to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
