The Lehigh Acres Kiwanis Club is looking for its Hometown Hero 2017 and is asking the public to submit nominations. Rick Anglickis, the chairman of the Hometown Hero Award Committee said that special person could be someone in the community who has done something without any publicity, someone who has done good things to help others and deserves to be recognized.
“We all know those outstanding people, those people who do great things for others and never look for thanks they do it because they are special people, and they are the people we want to honor in this year’s Hometown Hero Award,” Anglickis said.
The Kiwanis Club has about 60 members and is active in the Lehigh community. It began organizing and became a club around 1969, according to Anglickis.
Past winners of the award include such people a Harry Powell, Myra Kessler, Deputy Pat McDonald and Rae Nicely.
To nominate someone, Anglickis said you can send an email to him and explain the reasons why you think this person would be worthy of such an award. That email is: Ltgovrick@aol.com. You can also use the U.S. Postal Service and mail your nominations to Rick Anglickis, PO Box 111, Lehigh Acres, 33970.
Anglickis and his group will examine all the nominees and make a decision as to whom the award will be given on Friday, June 17 at the club’s banquet. The program will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church on the corner of Lee Blvd., and Homestead Rd. Call Anglickis for more details at 239-851-8901.
This is the 9th year for the presentation award, according to Anglickis who said the Kiwanis club had been meeting for a couple of years before the creation of such an award.
“We hope the people will give this some serious thought. There are so many good people in Lehigh who do so much good and we never hear about them,” he said.
“Now is the time to recognize that person. It is an honor for us at Kiwanis to honor the good people of Lehigh. People who never get their names in the paper who do great things for others are the types of people we love giving the Hometown Hero Award to, Anglickis said.
