FGCU’s women’s basketball team will play Bethune-Cookman after being snubbed for an NCAA tournament bid.
The Eagles will play host to the Wildcats (18-12) on Thursday night. The teams have played many of the same foes. Bethune-Cookman, from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, has beaten North Florida and lost to Jacksonville, Stetson, Florida Atlantic and split with North Carolina A&T.
The Eagles (28-5) have more wins than any other team in the field.
The Eagles learned there is little margin for error for a mid-major when the NCAA Selection Committee shut out the Eagles from the NCAA Tournament.
FGCU now will focus on playing in the Women’s NIT, which will be their fifth appearance.
