No More Grand Parade …….

There will be no “Lehigh Acres Spring Festival Grand Parade”; The Festival, which is scheduled from March 11-19, 2016 with opening ceremonies and continues all week long.

Judy Carter, a festival spokeswoman, said the parade has been canceled for a couple of reasons.

Fewer and fewer people participating along Homestead Road. And the $4000 plus cost from the Lee Sheriff’s Office which provides deputies in the closure of streets and makes a presence along the parade route has become cost prohibitive.

The rest of the festival will go on as usual. The crafts competition will be expanded to the first and the second weekend of the festival.

It will still be held in Veterans Park on Homestead and there will be the carnival and all the rides and plenty of vendors with food.

But there will be a non-motorize children’s parade the last Saturday in the park….. more details to follow.

Carter also commented that will be a new ride operator this year.

Entertainment is being planned for the week. A Led Zeppelin tribute rock band will perform the first weekend in the park. Another Nashville type band is also scheduled later that week.

The Lehigh Idol and talent contests are being phased down to one to two nights only.

Carter said the ever-popular Car Show and the pageants will continue as normal.
