Lee County Commissioners on Tuesday approved buying the last six parcels of land pieces for right away to the widening of Homestead Rd.
Homestead Road from a quarter mile north of Alabama to just passed Sunrise and around dead man’s curve on Homestead to will be widened to four lanes — and it will cost $21 million to do it.
“There are quite a few parcels of property along Homestead Road along Sunshine to Alabama that we have had to acquire,” said Randy Ceriche of the Lee County Department of Transportation.
With the six pieces the county commissioners approved to purchase on Tuesday, the total count is 43 parcels.
“It’s been a six to seven-year project thus far between design, planning and property acquisition,” said Ceriche.
According to NBC-2 the Lehigh Acres Fire Station on Homestead Rd will have more roadway, but will lose property, forcing them to respond to emergencies out the back door. THIS IS NOT TRUE.
The Lehigh Acres Fire Department has paid for an emergency light will be installed in front of station to stop traffic, and clear the main roadway.
“We have schools out that way, county parks out that way and many, many people who live out there,” said Chairman of the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, Nathan Stout.
The county has all $21 million lined up for this project, which is expected to begin in 2017.
you guys are idiots…what about using that money and widening SR82 ??? there is more of a safety issue on THAT road than on Homestead…wake the heck up and spend that money more efficiently and widen SR82 instead of Homestead Rd. SMH
wouldn’t the key word here be SR 82 – as in state road and not a county road
Different pots of money
EXACTLY – too bad people aren’t better informed or educated before they complain
