Accused Attempted Kidnapper’s
Family Says Suspect Has An Major Disability

Geoffry Jekanoski

A 39-year-old man stands accused of attempting to kidnap a small boy, but Geoffry Jekanoski’s family insists it’s a big misunderstanding.

Police said Jekanoski lured a 4-year-old boy away from a home where he was playing with friends in the Sherwood Estates subdivision, near the intersection of SR-82. A witness said Jekanoski had his hand on the boy’s shoulder and left the scene after the witness intervened.

Jekanoski was arrested soon after, but his sister-in-law says that he has a developmental disability “with the mindset of an older child.”

“We are all very scared and worried about him,” said Rebecca Hill-Jekanoski.

Nevertheless, neighbors near the home where the incident occurred on Silver Birch Way say there’s no excuse for the behavior.

LCSO stated that Jekanoski will undergo a mental health evaluation.

  1. I have known him for years and always realized that he had a problem. Still a very nice guy who wouldn’t hurt a fly. This, to me, seems like a huge misunderstanding. He will be evaluated? Just LEO speaking to him will know he is slow.
