Knock! Knock! Ring! Ring! Help! Help! This is how my afternoon started. I looked out the window to see what was happening and saw my neighbor’s car, with the hood up in my drive. It was surrounded by other neighbors and a truck from a pool company was parked in the street. When I opened the door I heard a very, very loud meowing. Thinking that my cat had been hit, I asked my husband to take a look.
Meanwhile, I kept looking out the window hoping my worst thoughts were wrong. Suddenly I saw a small orange cat run out from under the car toward my neighbor’s house. Concerned because this neighbor has a German shepherd dog who is not very friendly, I ran out to rescue the cat. After asking my neighbor to keep her dog inside, I started looking for the cat and found a small, scared kitten in some shrubs near her home. Trying to calm him, I started talking softly and lay down in the grass near the shrubs. After about an hour the kitten let me pick him up and take him to my home.
After checking to see that the kitten was okay, I asked my husband what happened. He told me that when my neighbor started her car she heard the cat meowing very loudly. Frightened, she drove to my house for help. The kitten had apparently crawled in an air intake vent in the front of the car and couldn’t get out. The loud meowing caught the attention of others, including two men who had just finished doing maintenance on my neighbor’s pool. Coming to the rescue, they followed her to my home, and basically dismantled the air intake assembly of the car to get the kitten out.
Thank God for caring, concerned people.
Oh, by the way the kitten was not mine, but a feral cat. Fortunately, I was able to place him in a very loving home. Again, thank God for caring, concerned people.
