Keeping your neighborhood safe is a joint effort of eyes watching out for each other.
You don’t have to be pals with your neighbors BUT you can be vigilant of your surroundings as to who should be there and who should not. If you see a strange individual(s) or a vehicle that doesn’t belong, that should be a “Red Flag” to you. This should be called in to the Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000 and you DO NOT have to give them your name!!!!!
It doesn’t matter if you own your home or rent your home. Ask yourself this:
“Do I want my home broken into and all my things stolen?
“Do I want my vehicle broken into and those things stolen?”
If your answer is no then you should think about how you can avoid this happening to you. You have all heard about Neighborhood Watch “NW” and have seen Neighborhood Watch signed posted all around. Belonging to a “NW” is very easy. You will learn what to look for. You don’t have to keep coming to meetings. However, they are extremely beneficial because we have our Sheriff Department Personnel at each meeting that you can ask lots of questions of. There are Community Watch Coordinators and residents just like you at these meetings. Why not come to a meeting and find out how you can help to PREVENT CRIME in your neighborhood.
Contact Steve McGiffin, Community Watch Coordinator Chairperson at 518-810-6533. Steve can tell you when the next meeting will be held and offer information.
Contact Larry Gutridge, Crime Prevention Specialist for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1802. Larry can tell you all about Neighborhood Watch.
DON’T BE A VICTIM DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
