During the bad storms on Sunday evening Lee County Fire task force had to come to aid of Lehigh Acres fire then had to leave to cover the Arcadia recycling fire. Lee County than called in the Naples fire strike team to cover with helping Lehigh Acres fire.
City of Naples, North Naples, East Naples, Golden Gate and Marco Island we’re all in Lehigh Acres covering what Lehigh Fire could not cover.
Also during this time we had a structure fire and also brush fire on 9th and Leroy Avenue which Lehigh fire and Alva fire put out.
Please note that more than 70% of Lehigh Acres firefighter’s paramedics and EMT’s live outside Lehigh Acres Fire district so we must depend on mutual aid in case of problems like Sunday night. Is this fair to the other fire districts?
Should all our local fireman live in the hundred forty three square miles of the fire district and be subject to call in at any time for instances such a Sunday night?
No matter how big or small, departments call in mutual aid on regular basis. Also, did you know there are firefighters who work in Miami and tampa who live in Cape Coral? Lehigh Acres is no different than any other fire department in that regard.
CLEARLY mutual aid cost somebody it’s not FREE!!!
Absolutely, Any new fire personnel regardless of rank when hired, should be a Lehigh resident or forced to move here within a specified period. We certainly have enough empty homes and land to provide a diverse option.
By the way where was Chief Wayne during the storm we believe he was at home in Fort Myers because one of Lehigh’s Asst Chiefs was the incident commander during and after the storm.
Better Lehigh people stay home, they have never saved a house. The only house that was saved was done by a neighbor with a garden hose. They had to put one house twice. They always save the pool and the chimney though
