Lehigh Acres Middle School is pleased to announce the winners of the school’s History Project Competition held to recognize National History Day across the nation. This years’ history theme was “Leadership and Legacy”. Students were required to write a research paper on the topic of their choice and create a project illustrating the Leadership and Legacy surrounding their topic. The AVID Program (Advancement via Individual Determination) at Lehigh Acres Middle School has received recognition from the National Avid Office as being a Highly Certified Site. The program has consistently met National Certifications in all 11 essential areas at Level 1 or higher, has at least 6 essentials rated “Routine Use” (Level 2) and/or institutionalization (Level 3), has been certified for at least 2 consecutive years, implementing for a minimum of 4 years. Recognition of the following at the school were instrumental in the Program receiving their commendations:
– Strong evidence to support site team involved in recruitment of students
– Strong support of voluntary participation of teachers and Site Team Members
– The addition of the Cambridge Academic Program offers greater opportunities for AVID students
– Site Goal to increase technology speaks to the commitment of student learning
– Purposeful instruction for accessing and evaluating digital information
– The idea of creating a Pre-Algebra class to support student growth is a creative way to address the issue of rigor
– Site visits indicate evidence of AVID Critical Reading strategies in content classes
Congratulations to Debra Prashad, Patty Golden and Rich Harmon who coordinate the AVID Program at LAMS and to all site team members participating at the school. Congratulations to Principal Neketa Watson and her staff for their unwavering support of the AVID Program.
And the Advanced Choir at Lehigh Acres Middle School participated in the Music Performance Assessment on Friday evening March 6th at Lehigh Senior High School and received great reviews. The Music Performance Assessment is the music equivalent to the FCAT.
The chorus received an ” Excellent” rating for 2nd highest on stage, and a “Superior” rating for the highest in site reading from all three judges.
The event was Lehigh Acres Middle Schools’ first time ever going to the event and it was a great success. The Music Department at LAMS is directed by Ms. Catherine May. Members of the Advanced Choir include:
