Lehigh Acres Boxer Tiara
Brown Trains For 2016 Olympics

Tiara Brown wants to gain stature in amateur boxing as a member of Team USA.

But first, she needs to gain a little weight.

Brown, 26 and lives in Lehigh Acres, and just won her third national championship at the USA National Championship in Spokane at 125 pound limit class.

Female Olympic boxers do not have a 125-pound weight class. They can compete at flyweight (112 pounds), lightweight (132 pounds) or middleweight (165 pounds).

“I have a big challenge,” said Brown, “I’ve got five months to prepare. I’m just going to do it.”

Brown won her second fight by unanimous decision, pummeling her opponent and dazing her twice on eight-second counts.

Between now and June 22, when the Olympic Trials take place in Colorado Springs, Brown will be doing the bulk of her training at the Headbangers Boxing Gym in Washington, D.C.

Brown could become the first Lehigh Acres Olympian.

Brown, who turns 27 on June 1, will train at 555 L St., across from the Washington Navy Yard, near the bank of the Anacostia River and not far from where the Washington Nationals play their home baseball games.
